Cancer survivor sues over firing

The Chicago Sun-Times had an article headlined Cancer survivor sues over firing that you might want to read. Here's part of it:
Ronald Michalowicz, a fire inspector for the village of Bedford Park, was given a 27 percent chance to live as he battled a rare form of tongue cancer.

The community rallied around him, raising about $25,000 to help.

He fought the cancer into remission.

But the village where he had worked for 28 years fired him for taking the contributions, in alleged violation of the Illinois Gift Ban Act

Read the whole article. If we are hearing all the facts. . . how aweful. Mercy triumphs over judgement. . . let them show mercy.

I would truly love for mercy to triumph ... but we ARE talking about a governmental entity.

Ah, yet another triumph of bureaucracy over common sense. Thanks for sharing this, Jami - perhaps the blogosphere can embarrass them into seeing the error of their ways.
