Bill Maher: Steal from the French
Bill Maher has written an op-ed for Newsweek International that is now posted at MSNBC entitled Hillary Equals France. In it, he extols the benefits of stealing the good parts of the French way of life.
Hate to sink your toy boat, Fox News, but the Founding Fathers, the ones you say you revere, were children of the French Enlightenment, and fans of it, and they turned it into a musical called the Constitution of the United States. And they did a helluva job, so good it has been said that it was written by geniuses so it could be run by idiots....
They have weird ideas about privacy. They think it should be private. In France, everyone has a mistress. Even mistresses have mistresses. To not have a lady on the side says to the voters, "I'm no good at multitasking."

To say the Founding Fathers were children of the French Enlightenment is highly misleading. The logical conclusion of the French Enlightenment was carnage at the hands of an omnipotent dictator, who was finally stopped by the commonsense British -- the real ancestors of American democracy. In 1789, the U.S. was a fledgling democracy while France was a police state. If you want to see the legacy of British rule, look to the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. If you want to see the French legacy, look to Haiti, Algeria, and Vietnam.

Well, I love political statements that are creatively er... stated! I could never give an educated retort, as Diesel did, on this subject. But regardless of your political sway, the truth remains the truth. And that truth is that yes! Not having a lady on the side says, "I'm no good at multi-tasking!" :)
