Don't tell Pat Robertson

Pat Robertson might not want to hear what Pope Benedict XVI had to say recently. For that matter, all the Protestants and Orthodox churches aren't going to be too happy, either. What did he say? According to MSNBC, among other things:

Orthodox churches were defective and that other Christian denominations were not true churches

...they were not true churches but merely ecclesial communities and therefore did not have the “means of salvation.”

“Christ ‘established here on earth’ only one church,” the document said. The other communities “cannot be called ‘churches’ in the proper sense” because they do not have apostolic succession — the ability to trace their bishops back to Christ’s original apostles.

Is that last part kind of like folks not being able to be called "Americans" if they can't trace their succession back to someone who lived in the Western Hemisphere before the arrival of Europeans?
