Yes, she's strange and different...but not THAT different.

Odds and ends

A little of this and a little of that ... just some stuff

Gotta Love a Texas Girl!
A girl from Texas and a girl from the East Coast were seated side by side on an airplane. The girl from Texas, being friendly and all, said, "So, where y'all from?" The East Coast girl said, "From a place where they know better than to use a preposition at the end of a sentence." The girl from Texas sat quietly for a few moments and then replied: "So, where y'all from, bitch?"

Staying Current?
When you're a parent of kids under 12, you have to keep up with the evolution of the language. That's so you'll know when to be pissed and when to be pleased at what your kids say. You also get to wear things as a parent that no one else wears: condiments, hair care products, exotic soil and even beverages. The good life!

Tricky Dick

Thirty-three years ago today, Richard M. Nixon resigned as President of the United States. I didn't like him when he was President but in comparison to what's in office today he was an outright liberal. He indexed Social Security for inflation, created Supplemental Security Income (SSI,) eradicated the last remnants of the gold standard, created the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Agency (NOAA), promoted the Legacy of Parks program, implemented the first significant federal affirmative action program, enforced the first large-scale integration of public schools in the South, approved development of the Space Shuttle, normalized diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China, enacted détente with the Soviet Union, signed the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty following the Strategic Arms Limitation Talks, and appointed Supreme Court Associate Justice Harry Blackmun, who wrote the Roe v. Wade decision. And he still managed to get impeached. Think that will happen to Duhbya?

New Phone!
I finally broke down and got a new cell phone. OK, it was my old cell phone that actually broke down but the new phone part is true. It's a Motorola RAZR V3xx, and it's GOLD! (Picture below.) And I also got a matching GOLD Bluetooth headset to go with it. (No picture below.) It took me moment to figure out how to take a picture of the phone with the phone's camera. (Restroom mirror at work, in case you're wondering. See the little flower piece on the right? Classy!)

Nixon was extremely liberal in most ways. All those things sounded good but in the real world government interference and handouts end up crippling everyone that they touch.

Can't keep (put) a Texas gal down!

Hard to believe that even a criminal President did more good than our present commander-in-chief!

    Don't mess with Texas!

And don't put away that Miss FDR pin just yet. Yes, Nixon did all those things, but he also introduced the concept of the "imperial presidency" - which our current Commander Guy has carried to its ultimate extreme - and grew the federal government bureaucracy at a rate exceeded only by that other figurehead of the "less government" Republicans, Ronald Reagan. I didn't like Nixon when he was in office (and I'm definitely old enough to remember that well), and I still think he did more harm than good.
