Day in court

Autumn Sandeen has a post up at Pam's House Blend about Diane Schroer's day in court. In a nutshell, when she retired after 25 years of service from the US Army's Special Forces - as Colonel David Schroer - she was offered a job with the Library of Congress. When she announced her intention to transition to living as a woman, the job offer was immediately rescinded. Colonel Schroer sued. Her day in court is today. Autumn has all the details here.

[UPDATES - 20 August 2008]: The online editions of the ABA Journal and The Washington Post both carried stories about opening day testimony in Ms. Schroer's case.

[21 August 2008]: A bunch more links to more info on Diane Schroer's case, including a video from Keith Olberman on Countdown.

What I don't understand is why the govt and other organizations open themselves up for ridicule by making such a deal over non issues.

I cannot think of any reason why Shroer shouldn't work in the library of congress. We need some special forces muscle in there to help with the overdue book problem. ;)

I wonder if this country will ever crawl out of the dark ages. I hope Ms. Schroer's day in court is a successful one.

If David Schroer has the skills to do the job and was hired, why are they opposed to having the same human being/person as Diane Schroer be employed.

I readily admit I have a hard time understanding the change-gender thing but I do say an employer has absolutely no reason to object unless they can establish that the job qualifications have issues that can only be answered by one gender vs another. Is there a job requirement to produce sperm at the Library of Congress??? I would love to hear about that.
